July 15 is National Clean Beauty Day! “Clean Beauty” is somewhat undefined in the beauty…
Say goodbye to light jackets and pumpkin spice lattes, y’all. Winter is coming, and while I’m admittedly upset—it’s hands-down the worst season, and I would defend that statement with my life—I am trying to look on the bright side. What is the bright side of reduced sunlight and the cruel onslaught of darkness at 5 p.m., you might ask? Excellent question. The answer is: your Winter Beauty Forecast for 2022. A new season means new trends, and therein lies the silver lining of the cold, dark months ahead. Although I hate to admit it, colder temperatures offer makeup lovers and fashionistas alike the opportunity to layer their art form in a way that warm weather does not. So without further ado…
Let’s take a look at the Winter Beauty Forecast for 2022!
Keep It Fresh
Freshly fallen snow doesn’t do it for me, but a fresh face of makeup? Now that’s something I can get behind. As temperatures drop, a minimal makeup look is all the rage. “Some of the trends I’m seeing for makeup both on the red carpet and on the runways are fresh makeup looks,” celebrity makeup artist Vincent Oquendo told Elle. Looking to achieve that highly sought-after dewy glow? Try layering Covergirl’s Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation and Clean Fresh Pressed Powder for a lightweight look that absorbs oil and keeps skin looking smooth all day.
Bold Blush
A little pop of color goes a long way. Bold blush has been big for a while now, which means there are dozens of different ways to go about it. This winter, though, I’m predicting the resurgence of one viral sensation in particular: Duoyin blush. With over 10 million views, the Duoyin blush trend is one of TikTok’s most popular makeup hacks of 2022. According to Lauren Stretch, a beauty expert from Revolution Beauty, the trend originated in China, where TikTok is colloquially known as “Duoyin.” Duoyin blush refers to a specific style of application where blush is applied to the cheekbones, nose, and chin for a rosy, doll-like effect. Watch the TikTok tutorial and try Glossier’s Cloud Paint in Storm to recreate the look yourself.

Get Your Grunge On
I can only speak for myself, but winter makes me emo. Seasonal affective disorder, anyone? Just me? Okay. Regardless of your mental state, express yourself this winter with grungy graphic eyeliner. “The inspiration and roots behind graphic liner are from the 1960s, when supermodel Twiggy created a very eye-catching and bold look to express herself with the art of makeup,” global makeup artist Sasha Ghodstinat told Glamour. Since then, it has made a serious pop culture comeback. Channel your inner rockstar with stark black lines, or embrace Euphoria vibes by experimenting with fun colors like green and pink. Introduce a little lime green to your glam routine with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner in Freak.
Brilliant Blues
Blue eye makeup has been blessing both the runways and the red carpet recently, and it’s here to stay for the winter months. Some people point to the release of Taylor Swift’s new album Midnights as the catalyst for this colorful trend since the album cover features Swift wearing bright blue eyeshadow. But according to celebrity makeup artist Kale Teter, there’s probably more to it than that. “I think one of the reasons we are seeing more blue at the moment is because right now, our pop culture trends are such a mix of the previous decades. People are pulling inspiration from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and especially the ‘90s and early 2000s, when blue eyeshadow was quite trendy,” Teter told InStyle. No matter where it comes from, I’ll take it. To achieve the perfect winter blues, consider Rimmel’s Magnif’Eyes Eyeshadow Palette in Rainbow Edition.
Bleached Brows
Drastic? Yes. Potentially disastrous? Also yes. But Gigi Hadid did it, so trend-wise, it’s legit. According to Elle, “Bleached eyebrows are the new breakup bangs.” Bold statement, but I truly believe the world would be a better place if this were true. The good news is, it’s easily reversible, so why not give it a go? I highly recommend The Brow Glue from NYX for all your fluffy brow styling needs, whether you try the trend or opt to keep ’em au naturel.

Loud Lipstick
Leave ’em on red, babe. Vibrant lipstick is here for the holidays, and personally, I’m thrilled. Cosmopolitan predicts a dark-brick shade making a comeback for cold weather, but the full range of reds is at your disposal. From scarlet to crimson to burgundy, you can’t go wrong with loud lips this winter. For a creamy texture in a darker hue, try Maybelline’s Color Sensational Cream Finish Lipstick in Brick Beat. If a matte finish is more your style, consider Covergirl’s Exhibitionist Ultra Matte Lipstick in Risky Business for long-lasting color in a cheerful true red.
