Winter is coming, and while I’m admittedly upset—it’s hands-down the worst season, and I would defend that statement with my life—I am trying to look on the bright side. A new season means new trends, and therein lies the silver lining of the cold, dark months ahead. Although I hate to admit it, colder temperatures offer makeup lovers and fashionistas alike the opportunity to layer their art form in a way that warm weather does not. So without further ado…

Freshly fallen snow doesn’t do it for me, but a fresh face of makeup? Now that’s something I can get behind. As temperatures drop, a minimal makeup look is all the rage. “Some of the trends I’m seeing for makeup both on the red carpet and on the runways are fresh makeup looks,” celebrity makeup artist Vincent Oquendo told Elle. Looking to achieve that highly sought-after dewy glow? Bold Blush

With over 10 million views, the Duoyin blush trend is one of TikTok’s most popular makeup hacks of 2022. According to Lauren Stretch, a beauty expert from Revolution Beauty, the trend originated in China, where TikTok is colloquially known as “Duoyin.” Duoyin blush refers to a specific style of application where blush is applied to the cheekbones, nose, and chin for a rosy, doll-like effect. Get Your Grunge On

I can only speak for myself, but winter makes me emo. Seasonal affective disorder, anyone? Just me? Okay. Regardless of your mental state, express yourself this winter with grungy graphic eyeliner. “The inspiration and roots behind graphic liner are from the 1960s, when supermodel Twiggy created a very eye-catching and bold look to express herself with the art of makeup,” global makeup artist Sasha Ghodstinat told Glamour. Blue eye makeup has been blessing both the runways and the red carpet recently, and it’s here to stay for the winter months. But according to celebrity makeup artist Kale Teter, there’s probably more to it than that. “I think one of the reasons we are seeing more blue at the moment is because right now, our pop culture trends are such a mix of the previous decades. People are pulling inspiration from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and especially the ‘90s and early 2000s, when blue eyeshadow was quite trendy,” Teter told InStyle. No matter where it comes from, I’ll take it. Bleached Brows

Drastic? Yes. Potentially disastrous? Also yes. But Gigi Hadid did it, so trend-wise, it’s legit. Cosmopolitan predicts a dark-brick shade making a comeback for cold weather, but the full range of reds is at your disposal.
