How Can I Use Social Media to Plan a Product Launch? You’ve done it! Your…
When it comes to social media, it’s essential to know how to take a good flat lay. Flat lays are seen all over our Instagram feeds, but what makes one stand out? Follow these tips to help you take amazing flat lays:
Stick to a Theme
A theme with a specific color scheme will help your photo look more professional and consistent. Choose two to three colors and figure out what your focus is, whether it’s a new lipstick collection or what you’re packing for your next tropical vacation. We recommend having a variety of props so you have the option to play around with different items and spacing!
Pick a Background
Flat lays typically look best when against a neutral background so the items can stand out. For a clean and simple look, we suggest sticking to a basic white or black background. Depending on your aesthetic, you can experiment with different patterns and textures to see what works best for you and your feed.
Use Natural Light
Nothing ruins a photo like poor lighting! Natural lighting works best when shooting flat lays, but you have to be sure you’re in even light to eliminate any random shadows. Unless you have a photographer’s lamp, artificial lighting will make your photos appear yellowed.
Tell a Story
It’s important to make sure that you have a purpose behind your flat lay. Instead of just showcasing a random collection of items, you want your flat lay to tell a story. The way you arrange your items can make a huge difference, so play around with your composition and see what you like best.
Choose a Filter
You don’t necessarily need a filter for your flat lay, but most Instagram users use filters to create a consistent and unique feed. There are many apps you can use to edit photos, such as VSCO, A Color Story, Snapseed, Afterlight and Lightroom.
