Agency Life

We are so excited to introduce Jacquie Johnson, Vice President of Business Development at Taylor & Pond. An experienced professional in the beauty world, Jacquie has worked with brands such as Revlon and CND/Colomer Beauty in leadership positions for the past two decades and has a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to offer those looking to work or currently working in the digital beauty industry!

1. Tell us a little about yourself. Have you always been interested in the beauty world?

Yes, I have always been a beauty supply store junkie. I started shopping for the latest beauty secrets when I was growing up and was always game to try them at least once (please don’t share my perm photos!)

2. Who inspired and supported you in your career?

My mom ran our family store and let me do all of the jobs from cashier, when I was five years old, to buyer, marketing, and management. She taught me a great work ethic, kindness and that I could pursue whatever I could dream in my life.

3. What or who inspired you to get into a line of digital + beauty?

My first job in beauty was VP of Global Marketing for CND. I was inspired to get into the industry when I attended my first professional beauty show, ISSE, in Long Beach. I met many of the founders of major beauty brands, and they were all passionately working their booths and so enthusiastic about education and their products. I was inspired to get into digital beauty when I saw the impact that social media had on the CND Shellac launch, making it a global sensation, virtually overnight.

4. What does a typical day in your life look like?

The best part of my job is that I don’t have a typical day; every day is different! I have the opportunity to work with fun clients every day. I also interact with brands who are interested in improving their digital presence; it’s rewarding for me to consult with them about the services that Taylor & Pond provides. My day includes client calls with our Taylor & Pond team, where we share ideas and plan creative content and present digital strategies that help to drive sales. I attend beauty and networking events to stay current on trends and to interact with other beauty professionals.

5. What is your favorite social media platform to use?

I like them all! I love to follow my favorite brands and people on Instagram, stay connected to my friends and family on Facebook, and use Twitter to see what’s trending. When I need cooking, entertaining, or fashion ideas, I love to check out Pinterest.

6. What are your favorite beauty products right now?

I am loving all of my Aloxxi hair products, especially their leave in conditioner! I am also hooked on ZO Skin Health anti aging skincare line. I love my Japonesque primer and MUA bare lip gloss and LeChat mood polish.

7. What’s in your makeup bag?

Well, the problem is that I have three make up bags right now, so I NEED to edit! That’s tough as I hate parting with any of my favorite products. I have one bag full of Japonesque brushes, a second bag with four different eyeliners and three brands of mascaras, plus an Ardell Stroke A Brow. My third bag has a variety of lipsticks, glosses, and tools.

8. What is a digital trend you foresee taking off this year?

Successful brands will continue to strive towards seamless brand and product experiences online. Voice search is a trend that will grow as people continue to use Google to search, and Amazon to shop.

9. What is one thing you have accomplished in your career that you’re extremely proud of?

I am proud of the relationships I have built with a wide variety of people from diverse industries. These relationships have helped teach me lessons, from bosses, mentors, clients, peers, and associates. I am constantly learning and growing and always willing to help anyone who is seeking support.

10. What is something that others might not realize about working in the digital beauty world?

It’s not “all social”, meaning there is so much more to digital beauty than social media marketing. Email marketing, website development, SEO, video production, strategy, media management, planning and budgeting are all part of the digital beauty world.

11. What advice would you give someone who is looking to work in tech + beauty?

You have to love beauty, and then it’s not work! Follow the brands you love on social and study what they are doing that makes you connect with them. Stay up to date with all of the trends by reading Digital Beauty HQ.
