Looking for more opportunities for direct-response advertising? Snapchat has you covered! After introducing Context Cards…
Get ready for even more filters and selfies — Snapchat is bringing the magic of lenses to live streams and video chats! Snap Inc. recently introduced a new feature called Snap Camera, a free application that allows anyone to use its signature augmented reality selfie filters (aka Snapchat Lenses) using their desktop computer.
Previously, users were only allowed access Snapchat Lenses through the mobile app, but the new camera available for Mac and Windows will integrate with apps including Twitch, Skype, YouTube, Zoom, Google Hangouts and OBS. Snap Camera lets you access thousands of Lenses in the Snapchat library, as well as new designs made other creators through Lens Studio software.
How do I use Snap Camera?
To use Snap Camera, simply download the Snap Camera app on your desktop device. After installing the app, it will sync with the camera connected to your computer and has the ability to connect with various video-sharing platforms and apps when you select it as the camera output. This means the next time you’re recording your next YouTube vlog or are updating your co-workers on sales in a video call, you’ll be able to play with Snapchat’s filters and effects. Through a partnership with Twitch, the Snap Camera will allow game streamers to use the AR effects while streaming and offer lenses to fans subscribed to their channel.
What does this mean for Snapchat?
As the company has recently struggled with losing users in its mobile app, moving to desktop is an opportunity to expand its’ reach without relying on the Snapchat app alone. Snap camera doesn’t require a Snapchat account to use, a move that Snap says is part of its vision to expand Lenses beyond just mobile.
