What is it like to be an agency photographer? As an agency photographer at Taylor…
So you want a true look at what it’s like to live the life of a Digital Account Manager? Lucky for you, I know a thing or two about what it takes to handle the ins-n-outs of Account Management (AM) life!
I’ve been part of the #agencylife since May 2020. Even though it was right at the start of the pandemic when our world was flipped upside down, I was still able to break into social media and start my agency career. I started as a Social Media Coordinator for a start-up agency after spending some time doing internships in PR and in-house social media. Fast forward to 2023, and I’m proud to be a Digital Account Manager at an industry-leading agency! Over the course of my career, I have worked with my share of “non-sexy” clients (like clients in HVAC, finance, and B2B), software agencies, and now clients within the beauty industry. Beauty will always be my favorite because of the ever-changing landscape, freedom of creativity and self-expression, and clients’ willingness to test the limits.
This is my day in the life of a digital account manager!
Rise ‘N Grind
Typically, I set my alarm for 7:30am as a preliminary wake-up call. I usually hit snooze 2 or 3 more times and try to wake up at 7:45 or 8:00am but the timing changes based on my hunger. After getting ready, I hit the door by 8:30am and head to the office!
Cue The Office Theme
As soon as I enter the office, I head straight to the coffee machine and snacks. No conversations are held until I have a coffee in hand. I might have eaten before coming in, but coffee is an office must-have. After getting some freshly ground beans, I say, “What’s up?” to everyone – our creatives, account team, operations team, and fur babies!
Once my morning meet and greets are wrapped, I head to my computer and check all my emails.
Staying Organized
Morning organization is key for a productive day; delete any spam (random META emails), flag emails for follow-up, and tend to any urgent messages.
Wrangling emails typically keep me occupied until my morning meetings. On average, I have 3 or 4 meetings a day, but that can increase or decrease depending on projects, the time of year, and the number of clients I’m managing.
When scheduling meetings, I try to schedule more of my meetings before 12:00pm PST for 2 reasons:
- I don’t like having meetings toward the end of my day. It’s a personal preference, but being time flexible is CRUCIAL to AM success.
- I want to consider my east coast team! In our new remote-working world, t’s best to get all meetings out of the way earlier to respect their time and not keep them past their end of day that’s earlier than mine.
Meetings, emails, and one-off conversations (we must playfully debate who has the best taste in music and what’s the latest on our favorite influencers) feed directly to lunch. (See what I did there?) Lunch is a mixture of yesterday’s leftovers, 7/11, and our free office snacks – but if it’s Thursday, then we get free lunch!
After lunch, it’s time to buckle down, plug in my headphones to listen to music, and crank out my afternoon tasks!
Speaking of listening to music, I bet you’re wondering, “Hey, Thomas, what do you listen to when you’re busting out work?”
I’m glad you asked! These are my top work playlists depending on my mood!
After checking off my task list and experiencing a dopamine rush, it’s time to close the books on another successful day. I then pack everything up and head back home to enjoy dinner with my lady and puppers! This is truly the best part of my day.
After saying goodnight and scrolling for another hour, I try to get some sleep at 10:30 or 11pm…even though social media might keep me up longer than I’d like to admit. And then I wake up and get at it again the next day!
