1. Tell us a little about yourself. How did you first get involved in the beauty world?
I grew up in New Jersey, studied graphic design in college and then pursued that as my career. However, when I moved to LA four years ago, I struggled to find a job. I started doing a bit of fashion photography here and there, and most of my clients were fashion bloggers. I started a fashion blog just as a way of relating to my clients better, but then it began picking up speed. Over the course of a few years, my brand has changed substantially as I slowly figured out what I liked to create and what my followers enjoyed seeing. I gradually decided to focus mainly on cruelty-free beauty instead of fashion, and have recently been doing a lot of video.
2. What does a typical day in your life look like?
My pups are always my first priority when I wake up! We spend some time in the yard and I eat my breakfast and catch up on emails at the same time. I spend the majority of my day working on content – filming, editing, planning, etc. In the early evening, I finish up my work and head to yoga or the gym. Then I spend time with my hubby eating dinner and watching TV.
3. Your dachshunds Wendell, Norman and Matilda pop up often on your Instagram feed. Can you tell us more about how you incorporate them into your shoots and collaborations?
I incorporate them as often as possible! A substantial fraction of my followers are here just for my dogs, so I make sure to post about them frequently.
4. What is something that others might not realize about being a beauty influencer?
It’s not nearly as glamorous as it looks. It’s about 99% unglamorous! I get to take cool photos and go to events, but most of the time it’s pretty monotonous. I’m typically sitting with my dogs, wearing sweatpants or working on content (like right now)!
5. What advice do you have for those looking to get involved in the beauty world?
I get a lot of DMs from people looking for a quick and simple way to become a beauty influencer, and how to make money from it. But the truth is, choosing this path requires years of hard work, research and persistence. It’s not just about creating pretty makeup looks – you need to be well-versed in marketing, business, photography, editing and more. I always tell people not to follow this path with the goal of making money. If you do it for the passion and the enjoyment, the money that might come will just be the icing on the cake.
6. We know that you’re very passionate about cruelty-free beauty. What are some of your favorite cruelty-free and vegan brands?
There are so many good ones! Some of my ride-or-die cruelty-free makeup brands are wet n wild, NYX and Too Faced. My favorite brands that are both cruelty-free and vegan are Kat Von D Beauty and Cover FX. For cruelty-free skincare, my favorite brands include Emme Diane and LUSH Cosmetics. I also just started using Sunday Riley skincare and makeup and so far I love it!
7. How do you approach brand collaborations and what are some of your favorite partnerships?
All of my brand collaborations are so different – I don’t have one particular method of approaching them! Most of the time either the brand will pitch me via email, or vice versa. My favorite partnerships so far have been with wet n wild and Pacifica.
