Now that we’ve got you covered for this year’s biggest social media trends, it’s time to talk skincare! It’s no secret that 2019 is the year for skincare, with brands and influencers everywhere launching new skincare lines and products (e.g. Kylie Jenner’s recent skincare launch). The amount of consideration and technology that has been put into skincare this year is immense. The needs and preferences of the customers within the skincare industry continue to evolve towards a more clean and holistic approach. We’re starting to see a rise is health conscious skincare products like CBD based products and pollution blocking products — just to name a few. Here are some buzzing 2019 skincare trends you can expect to see this year.

2019 skincare trends

1. CBD Skincare

Ever since cannabis became legal in numerous states, people have been intrigued by cannabis-based products and their benefits on the human body. One of these buzzing ingredients is CBD (cannabidiol), which has been infused into a variety of industries such as beauty, food and beverage, and even pet care. CBD is a plant-based compound, which is naturally occurring in the cannabis. Unlike THC, CBD is completely non-psychoactive.

Because of CBD’s antioxidant rich properties it can help with a range of skincare troubles from inflammation to acne. Many skincare companies are jumping on this CBD train by creating CBD-infused acne products, body lotions, lip balms, face oils, etc. The only problem with CBD is that there are currently no regulations on CBD in cosmetics and beauty products. Meaning that unless a brand grows it themselves, CBD-derived products can’t be traced to a growth source (i.e. organic or not).

2. Personalized Skincare

Nothing says “2019 skincare trends” like personalized skincare products that are tailored to your individual skin’s conditions and deficiencies. Everything in our lives is customized from our homes to our diet — so why not customize our skincare?

If your skincare routine is a long and complicated one, try out customizing the perfect serums with these top brands: Purology, Keihl’s Apothecary Preparations, SkinCeutical’s Custom D.O.S.E., and Clinique iD. Most of these brands will have you fill out a skin survey and use the results to build an entire skincare routine around your specific needs.

3. Anti-Pollution Skincare

Have you ever thought about how pollution affects the quality of your skin? If not, it might be time to start. Doris Day, MD in New York City says, “The effects of pollution on skin are also profound and seen as increased risk of skin cancer, skin sensitivity, premature skin aging, discoloration, dryness, dullness, and roughness.”

Many companies are now taking pollution into consideration and developing skincare regimens that protect against air pollution. Some top trusted pollution fighting skincare products are Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Anti-Pollution Drops, Lixir Skin’s Vitamin C Paste, and Oskia’s City Life Facial Mist. It may seem like wearing nothing on your face is protective enough, but the dirt, oils and germs in the atmosphere are even scarier.

4. Blue Light Blocking

The average person spends over 10 hours a day staring at a screen. Skincare companies are taking blue light into consideration just as much as ultraviolet. For example, Murad’s City Skin Broad Spectrum SPF 50|PA++++ is formulated to protect skin from device blue light.
